SEEKING TO BELONG

The young girl kept searching among the faces of those present. She was determined to find him no matter how long it took. She knew that she would not rest until she found him and now more than ever the urge to know him had taken over her.

Growing up with her mother, she had been well taken care of as an only child. It had taken her a while to realize that her family was different from other kids. With time she found out she was missing a father and then her quest begun. She thought about him all the time constantly wondering about his looks.  Afraid to ask her mother for details she had purposed to look for him any way she could.

She got word of her father’s whereabouts from her grandmother. She had often begged her to disclose to her who he was but it had taken a long time to get even the slightest hint from the elderly lady. Finally worn out by the constant begging the old lady had bagged and given her a name and even further disclosed that the man lived in a town not too far from them. Jane had been so excited by that piece of information that sleep had evaded her for days.

Constant asking around got her to locate where he lived. It seemed he had a family of his own and had moved on with life. She wondered if he knew of her existence. What did he look like? Had he ever seen her? These and other countless questions served to edge her on with her quest. Finally she had traced his home. Even more interesting was the fact that he was hosting a party at his home that weekend. Jane could not believe how close she was to finding the missing part of herself.

She had arrived early and sat among the guests. Being an informal party she might have passed for a relative. She soon found herself in a dilemma locating him since it would seem awkward for her to seem unfamiliar with him. She had realized that she depended on her intuition to lead her to him.

She saw a group of men seating together around a table. They all seemed to be in familiar ground giving no clue to her search. They laughed heartily every once in a while as they chatted comfortably. Then she saw him. He looked up just in time to catch her eye. Her heart flipped so much she was sure he could see her nervousness. She started to walk away but something drew her back. It was like she had found the missing part of herself. Even though she had not confirmed, she was almost certain that the man staring at her was the father she had longed to meet for a long, long time.

Many children grow up with the emptiness of not knowing who their father is. God intended that a child be born to two parents thus it is important that they know the two no matter the circumstances. Then they can find closure and get on with life.
